Shohom Bose-Bandyopadhyay

PhD Student

Shohom is a first-year Ph.D. student at Carnegie Mellon University, having recently completed his master's thesis at Georgia Tech on traceability for legacy CNC machining systems. His research interests center on collecting and utilizing manufacturing data to understand how process parameters influence final part quality.

By using data from standards such as MTConnect and linking it with part inspection results to automatically create contextually labeled datasets, his master's work focused on detecting chatter (a common machining defect) and predicting surface finish. At CMU, Shohom is eager to apply physical modeling and data-driven methods to additive manufacturing, with the goal of predicting quality and enabling certification of printed parts.

Outside the lab, he enjoys playing guitar, stand-up comedy, and climbing.
